UCYP – MALAYSIA FIRST UNIVERSITY TO HOLD VIRTUAL CONVOCATION CEREMONY

UCYP is the first university in Malaysia to successfully hold a virtual convocation ceremony with Her Majesty Raja Permaisuri Agong Tunku Hajah Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah binti Almarhum Al-Mutawakkil Alallah Sultan Iskandar Al-Haj.

The ceremony which took place in accordance with the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) was carried out in three (3) sessions with an average presence of 50 graduates at one time.

Various initiatives and plans have been discussed at the university management level, so that better preparation can be made for this virtual convocation. According to the Vice Chancellor of UCYP, Emeritus Professor Dato’ Dr Ahmad bin Haji Zainuddin, UCYP places safety issue as the major aspect before any other matter.

“Extra precautions and initiatives were discussed thoroughly among the UCYP management, especially in terms of safety and health of staff and graduates. In this new norms, technology is the best solution to the implementation of convocation. The convocation was done virtually and UCYP is the first university to conduct the virtual convocation with Tuanku Chancellor and the first virtual convocation in Malaysia”.

According to the Head of UCYP & KYP 2020 Virtual Convocation Ceremony Program, Puan Suhaila Haji Mukhtar said, the unprecedented Covid-19 pandemic has made people to be more creative.  The UCYP virtual convocation utilizes super imposed editing technique whereby a photo of Her Majesty Raja Permaisuri Agong Tunku Hajah Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah binti Almarhum Al-Mutawakkil Alallah Sultan Iskandar Al-Haj was taken earlier at Istana Negara on 7 October 2020 and the graduate’s photo was taken during his or her appointment. Both photos were edited and placed accordingly on the ready-made photo template.

This effort is in line with the adaptive concept highlighted by UCYP. The convocation with virtual concept is the best step to be taken in accordance with the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) when conducting programs during this pandemic time and adapting to the new norms.

All three virtual convocation sessions (9-11 Oct. 2020; 16-18 Oct. 2020 and 23-25 Oct. 2020) went well and many positive feedbacks received from graduates, parents and staff. There were 376 graduates attended the UCYP virtual convocation except those from Conditional Movement Control Areas.
